Walt,
What I would suggest is to throw a big party and ask all your guests to remove their shoes at the door. Collect all the shoes and affix sandpaper to the soles. Put on “The Animal Song” by Savage Garden and watch your problem disappear!

In restoring a victorian house in Boston we have encountered some floors that are quarter sawn oak and others that are pine both of which have been covered with old linolium. It looks like tar paper was first laid down and adhesive bled through the paper and has glued the tile to the floor...so much so that some of the grain on the pine is tearing out as we pull up the tile. Any suggestions for a good solvent to soften up the adhesive? Any suggestions for good floor refinishers in the Boston area?
Thanks for any thoughts.
*Good evening Walt,Have you tried a heat gun to soften the lino first and then to remove the glue with a scraper.I don't think you want to use chemicals in your house.
