At a recent home show I was talking to the James Hardie dealer and he was saying that their 5/16th” hardipanel product and a soon to be released new 7/16th” panel could be used as both the structural sheathing and finish siding. However searching around I have yet to find anything that has been built this way. Could anyone comment on whether this would be a “good idea” or not and also the type of wall assembly for the wet Northwest? I’m also planning on building a 2 story house with a daylight basement.

I'd be very interested in that if the material was accepted as being equivalent to Struct #1 plywood. Here in earthquake country it would be ideal to get the shear strength you need without putting additional weight on the structure.

Sounds like T1-11 to me.
