Hi, I’m planning to install 500 s/f of BRAZILIAN TEAK hardwood floor in my home, the problem is I don’t know where to start, We have many curves, somebody told me pick the largest place in the area, and my other question is does the hardwood strip have to go parallel or vertical to the joist, Thanks guys. Post is in the wrong category.
Wood flooring usually runs in the direction of the length of the room regardless of joist orientation.
Square the room and work towards the curves.

Check the moisture content before you put a stick down. If it is 8% or more you may want to reconsider using.

as long as you have sufficient modern subflooring, the axis of lay is a matter of taste. One of my primary indicators is the direction of most light coming into the room. if light rays from a large expanse of windows runs across the grain, it will highlight any flaws, but running with the grain will amplify the beauty of the grain.
Also, in a long narrow room - such as a hall or say something 12x34, running across the narrow width and make it seem somewhat wider and less tunnel like.
If you have a larger room, it can be better to start at center with a spline joint and work out to each side.
definitely acclimate this wood first so it has the same MC as the subfloor, and use resin paper under it.
