We are living in an older house (circa 1946) with existing oak strip flooring that was installed in the late 50’s. The floor finish is original and we are now thinking about a major remodel which would include refinishing all the hardwood floors. There is one major problem, we own 4 cats and have found that a cat’s vomit (think hairballs) decimates what little finish is still on the floor.
Does anyone know of available clear hardwood floor finishes that have the capability and durability to stand up to this kind of abuse?

Ask your finisher for moisture cured polyurathane, it is a great hard finish. Have it on my cherry floors that were done 5 years ago and it looks like new. Not many people use it, so ask around. Jim Z
We own two cats and two dogs. Well cured polyurathane is the toughest finish there is. Try to minimize walking on the finish unles in stocking feet and keep the critters off for a week or two if you can. After that, hair balls will have no effect.
