Hi,
This is my first post on breaktime, I usually spend my time on knots. I’m planning on installing 3/4″ hardwood flooring in my family, and for esthetic reasons want to install the hardwood parallel to the floor joists.
I live just north of Boston and the house was built in the early 70’s, the room is on the first floor, and the joists are 16 oc. The subfloor looks to be 1×8 pine (Does not look to be T&G), plastic vapor barrier, and then 3/4″ ply. I will be installing the hardwood over an existing vinyl floor which is in good condition.
Any problems not running perpendicular to floor joists?

It isn't a problem in your case. Ours is 5/8" BC over 1/2" cdx and holds up to the herd just fine.

With a 1.5" think subfloor I wouldn't worry about it in the least.

NO problem at all as long as you shellac the floor <grin>
