We just moved into a 23 yr old house with strand board subfloor. I don’t know if it’s OSB or random strands. The brand name is Aspenite. We want to install 3/4″ hardwood floor planks as the finish floor. One flooring dealer — one of the largest in our area — showed me a study that says floor cleats actually stick better in OSB than in plywood. Another told me the finish floor would be wavy. I’ve done more research and discovered an issue with “edge thickening” in OSB. Looking at my subfloor, that’s exactly what I find. My question…
If I sand down the thickened edges of the OSB will they rethicken enough to tent up the hardwood flooring?

I've installed 3/4 oak flooring with an air assisted hammer stapler over osb after sanding swelled edges and it has worked fine. The floor will not show any waves due to the osb particles or the edges.
