I'm in the design phase of a new home and would like to incorporate a hardwood floor. Something with lots of 'character'. The doors and trim will be fir with a clear-coat, letting it show the sap wood and redden out with time. The kitchen cabinets will probably be alder with a natural cherry finish. Two questions: (1) What species of wood sounds like it would fit the bill? (2) I have two dogs (60-lb and 40-lb mutts) that have damaged the oak floor in my current home. Kids will be kids and they have a tendancy to run rather than walk through the house. Any comments or help would be appreciated. Thanks......LJ.
*That is a concern for most pet owners. The finish I usally recommend is "Moisture Cure". Three coats should do the job.It dries in approx. 4/hours (each coat). Some pet owners trim the dog's paw.

I have to quote on installing some prefinished hardwood flooring (the Real stuff) what is the going price per square foot? I have done this before but was not the guy who was billing.
