Can anyone out there give me some advice? I’m doing a radiant floor right now, the sleepers are in and the gypcrete is poured over the tubing. I’ll be installing 2 1/4″ red oak flooring over it. I have two concerns: on the advice of my plumber I set the sleepers every 18″ and I’m now wondering if that’s going to give me enough hold for nailing. The second concern is what to use as a vapor barrier, if anything, between the gypcrete and the flooring, so any moisture coming from the heating won’t cup the oak. Will the roofing felt that I would normally use give off odors once the heat comes on? Could I use a flooring glue like Bostick’s Best to give more hold to the floor AND to provide moisture protection? Just to add another factor: the gypcrete contracted after the pour so that it’s almost a full 3/32″ shallower than the sleepers which might mean using a larger toothed trowel than I would normally with a flooring glue.
If anyone has tackled this situation before and can give me some pointers I’d be much obliged.
