hardwood over old vinyl

hello any hardwood floor guys

Is it O.K to put down hard wood floor over old vinyl floor if I put #30 felt paper between the two floors,Im wondering if ill wind up with crackles&pops,Im a roofer framer sider home improvement 2 man operation just doing the floor as a favor to a friend thanks for any info

    it's done all the time by flooring installers.

    personally I enjoy the daunting task of ripping up old vinyl ( not really) but if it's an old house I like ot screw the "whole" floor down.
