Talked to a potential remodel client today. One of the things she wanted was to lay a maple or similar hardwood floor in kitchen and Liv rm. It’s a one story house on a slab. She had someone else prep for some type of glue down floor but changed her mind, so the floor now has 1/4 ply glued and nailed over the concrete. I wont be laying the floor but I wanted to advise her on the feasability of this. My initial thought was to add another layer of ply, probably 3/4″ to the floor but she didnt like both the added expense and the additional height. Any thoughts on wood floors over concrete?

Sounds like her well-meaning hish school son read saw something on Trading Places and tried to follow suit. What do they expect to nail to 1/4 ply? If they are planning on a floating floor, maybe the 1/4r ply was to raise it to a certain height.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.

He said "preped for glue down floor".
I'd just build a floating floor if she objects to the height. If she objects to the expense, she should have made up her mind the first time.
MERC.
needs a vapor barrier
must be an engineered product (read that, laminated like plywood)
can be a glue down or floating over a felt pad
my biggest concern is how well the plywood is attached to the concrete
i don't see a need for another layer of plywood unless the existing floor is very wavy
