I have a client who wants hardwood in the family room but is going for tile because of a large (fat) collie and its nails. They are worried about damage by the dog to the hardwood. Is there a finish that will stand up to a large dog with healthy nails, or should they just go for the tile?

From just going through this................
Home owner "what did you do to my new floor when you installed the sink?
Me "I did'nt touch the floor, we had it covered"
"You messed it up!!!"
That afternoon home owner comes home and the large dog runs circles on the wood floor welcoming him home right where the damage is. I watched all this, then looked at the floor up close and told him "its the dogs toenails messing up the floor"
So go with the tile.
I have four dogs. Two pretty much wear down their nails without much attention from me. One I cut regularly, the other doesn't like her feet touched and so the get trimmed less than necessary. In the areas where they are allowed, I have tile or Pergo.
Go for the tile.
