I had a 1980 FLH and tried selling it summer 2007 via newspaper ad and had a lot of tire kickers but no sale

It was a tremendous waste of time taking the phone calls and showing the bike to 15-16 people or whatever it was.

Fast forward to this year and I placed it on craigs list and sold it relatively painlessley

    Here's where it gets interesting

A month or so after I sold it I was surfing the net and looking at Harleys and found a site where a local guy was selling used Harleys

I looked and it was the same guy who had bought mine !

He bought it and then sold it a month later for $1,500 more than what he paid me !

    Oh well, live and learn

if you wasnt so far away I would of bougth it no problem. It was a real good deal

      1. mrfixitusa | Aug 29, 2008 01:55am | #7

I bought my first one in 1977 It was a 1973 sportster 1000 CCIt was an XLCH meaning the small gas tankI paid about $1,900Some of the wiring melted the day I bought it A car hit me in town and totaled it out about 3 years laterBut I bought it back from the ins companyThen my second one was a 1970 sportster 900 CCI paid $1500 for it and bought it from a highway patrolmanIt was an XLH which means it had a windshield and saddlebags and the four gallon gas tankThen I bought the 1980 FLH in 1987 in Rifle ColoI paid $2800 for it None of these were bikes I would trust out on the highwayI rode the second one to calif and the motor blew up in el paso texas and they had a mexican who didn't speak english rebuild the motorThis was at the harley dealership in 1980He put the pistons in backward but I didn't know it til years laterAnyway I had a lot of fun with themBut I really would not have wanted to sell the last one to anyone I knowI just don't think they were very dependableYou need to own a pickup so you can haul it back home when it breaks downI can't tell you how many times they broke down over the yearsIt was many times

I have a 2002 Deuce and am still on the original battery. Its never failed to start within 3 seconds. Its rides rock solid on the interstate. I can't say enough good things about this bike.

    2. mikeroop | Aug 29, 2008 12:45am | #5

I don't really need to sell it but never get to ride it and when i do i have 4 kids who all want a turn not that i mind but by the time i'm done i don't have time to do whatever it was to do.thought about craigslist might try it.glad to know it worked for you. i had a big auction last july and turned down the highest bid at 14,000. the guy must have thought i was hungary.

I was out at the farm today and spotted this in the equipment shed. It got left there after a party a year or so ago. The guy has never come back to get it. That's all  I know about it. I've heard it's for sale. Want it for your next nice bike you never ride? LOL

A rich idiot. The guy owned a large heating and air business and sold it for a pretty good profit. I've met him at parties. He drinks too much and has too good of a time. Pretty obnoxious.

It's on the farm you never know. I was up in the attic of the equipment shed working and ran across a huge turd. I don't even want to know what lives in that attic. Scared me.
