Yesterday I grouted a bathroom floor with unsanded, dark gray grout. Today my client called and said there was a ‘cream’ on top of the grout, making it look white. I inspected it & can not figure out why this happened.
I mixed the grout according to the manufacturer’s instructions. I misted the tile before grouting. Grouted – waited – wiped – waited – wiped – waited – removed haze with cloth – lightly misted before leaving.
I have layed this exact tile before with no problems. And I have used the same brand of grout in the past.
It did get cold in the house since the HVAC is being redone. I am located in Georgia. All of my tile books have nothing to say about this problem.
Any suggestions? (other than using a black Sharpie!)
Thanks!

tattoo , yesterday I grouted the tub surround, O.K., that said, did you let the grout Slake?, what size are your grout joints? What was the color of your Thinset?, How much time was there between finish of tiling and grouting? What was the consistancy of your grout mix? did you have any standing water in your grout joints, just before you started grouting? Last one , how cold did it get in the room, when you were finished?Anywho , I'am guessing you had to much water on the floor and the grout was to runny, I would check into the use of a Tile Stain, or just use our sharpie, I do wish you the best of results/ outcomes with this one. Jim J. p.s. just kidding about the sharpie, or was I ??
5 days between tile setting & grouting, gray thinset, no standing water, slaked grout 10 mins{ man. suggestion}, 43-46 degrees inside. did i cover everything? did you use the new fiberbond additive for your grout? tattoo
tatoo, Reads like your Job is Textbook, sorry to hear about the haze, it's got me stumped, though, I figured that I might find something wrong with your process, but no. If I remember, I'll stop by my tile store, and check with Chris, between her and her husband, probaly the two most knowlegeable people on Tile, in Arizona. Oh, just what was your grout joint size? Tattoo, no, I did not use the fibre bond additive in my grout, as a matter of fact, never heard of it, for the most part, I pound nails during the day. Best of Luck on your solution, Jim J
