monday… my supply house guy tell me 6awg wire is $345 a 500ft roll… says thats the new price …. &*^%$ damn what the &^%* is up with that when 6mo ago it was $69…
well i know it’s $225 at lowes so i scoot my butt on over i need 5 rolls so i figure i’ll open a lowes charge to save the 10% on the first purchase while i’m at it… plus they have a ton of light fixtures on clearance so i load up…
well they only have 3 rolls so i get those and my lights and get my account open get my 10% off and i’m all good…
I know the same wire at HD is $274 so first stop tuesday morning i figure i’ll get them to match lowes price (225.00) and i’ll get my 10% extra off as per their sign “we beat anyone price ect…”
takes over an hour… and they honor the $225 price of lowes but won’t give me my 10% off… WTF is this… big fat manager comes out and says… we don’t give the 10% off on copper…. company policy….
Not what the sign says… he tells me he’s never read the sign but thats the rule take or leave it…
so i take it…
just try to find the policy on the HD web site… once you do find it…it flips off so fast you can read it… anyway long story short corportate PR guy says manager is wrong go back and get your 10% he calls the store tells them i’m come’n and not to make me wait… still took 25 min… but…. $45 is $45
fun for me

HD says that on wood too., they will even not match the price in their own newspaper ads.
i love the 10 off game between hd/lowes. i bought a nail gun once went to hd they were .o5 cents higher,,got the 10 off saved 30 bucks. larry
hand me the chainsaw, i need to trim the casing just a hair.
The pro-desk at my local HD has a good group of guys who used to be at smaller local lumber yards till HD gobbled them up. The new store manager was pushing the prodesk manager to get more whole house bids in. Pro desk manager knows I don't buy my big lumber from them but asks me to give them a breakout so they can do a bid for me.
My regular lumber yard comes in at roughly $75k for the lumber package for this house. HD comes in at close to $100k. I talk to the pro-desk manager and we had a good laugh. He knows he cannot compete on these types of projects, but is doing what he is told.
The shortly after this I get a call from the new HD store manager "We really want your business and will work real hard to make sure you are happy. If you place that order today I will give you a gift card worth $500."
I inform the store manager that they were $25K higher than my regular yard, but as the ad says-they will beat any price by 10% soooo.... if you can get your bid to $68k we can start talking.
Store manager quickly informs me that that is only for advertised prices and he definitely could not come down that much.
So no gift card, no 10% discount, and a real good laugh.
Let me know how you get the discounts.

I'm glad you guys play the game...
I could care less if they were a real company in 10 days from now.
I will get better service for every item I purchace at the local yard. The price is as good and they all know my name, address, and where to drop it off. Oh, and they pick the returns for zip also.
Orange can stay away from me.
A lot of the stores with the "match the price +10% off" is really 10% off of the DIFFERENCE in price.
i.e. If Lowze has widgets for $200 and Homey Despot is $230, HD will adjust the price to match Lowze at $200 and also take off $3, NOT $20.
hd and lowes baet it by 10% of price if they are a dollar higher on a 100. item they will meet it then beatit by 10. 90.00 is the price.larryhand me the chainsaw, i need to trim the casing just a hair.
As Ed McMann(sp) on Jonny Carson use to say-You are correct.
The idea is that if you are going to use Repeat use the big boxes, then you need to be paid to go in there.
$Use$ them.
Don't ya just love the big boxes? I deal as much as possible with my local lumber yard, where they know my name, I know all the guys behind the counter, and we all have a good chuckle regularly. And dang if that chuckle isn't worth more than the extra time it takes to shag to the local HD (no Lowe's nearby) and deal with "sales associates" whose primary job is clearly to take home a check without knowing anything about what they sell except how much is costs.Am I jaded?
Jaded? Perhaps.Accurate? Most definitely!
