CArefully ordered tub weeks in advance. Didn’t expect them to call when it came in even though they promised. I kept calling. It came in. Went to get it. It looked fine. The two who loaded it into my truck while I paid dropped it on it’s side and broke it. “Pro Desk” manager threw up her hands and said I WAS MAKING A BIG DEAL OUT OF NOTHING A LITTLE REPAIR WOULDN’T FIX!!!
Replacement tub due in three weeks or so… Start framing in about two weeks.
I’ll be ok IF IT COMES IN ON TIME AND IN GOOD CONDITION. Think I’ll load it myself. You know: “Thanks, but I really don’t need any help. AND IF YOU TOUCH IT I’LL FEED YOU TO IMERC!”
Ok, folks. Just a little rant. Never mind.

Should have let me know what it is / was you had in mind... I just ate...
Who ever invented work didn't know how to fish....
was it a fiberglass tub?
I find that HD is great if I know what I need and they stock it. They always have a wide variety and never run out. On the other hand, ordering a custom cut laminate counter top from them was one of the most painful experiences of my life. It would have been less time and agravation for me if I had walked three states away to the supplier, given them the order, waited in their parking lot for two weeks while they cut it and carried it home on my back.
Recently I have ordered some plumbing fixtures and a stone counter top on a few separate occasions from The Great Indoors. Great service, competitive prices and everything showed up when (or before) they said it would.
Yeah well, last evening I needed a dozen cheap 2x4's. Quality was not important as it is for a temp project.
While there I walked the plumbing isle as usual to keep on top of what they are selling. Found 8 lavatory pop-up assemblies on clearance for 1 cent each! I snagged them all. Now they are cheap HD type crap and I can't install them for a client. But I can sell them on eBay to someone who wants this type of pop-up.

Yeah, well, if you had ordered it at the local yard or plumbing supply house none of their emplyees would have dropped it. Cmon, get real. Accidents happen. And they happen at all businesses. Just because its HD doesn't make it more of an event. The issue is how they react to the issue.
I used to order windows from a window supplier 40 miles from home. This is a first class window, siding, roofing wholesaler. Quit ordering from them because although the prices and service were good on each of the last 2 orders I had one dropped window. I didn't think less of there operation, It was just a pain trying to find time to get there to settle it. DanT
There, there. I've been there, I understand. I feel you pain. It'll be better the next time.
I know that's all you needed, a little sympathy. :-)
As I mentioned in another thread, the driver of the delivery truck from our local lumberyard ran straight into a tree branch with my bathroom door. Ooops. Accidents happen, but why do they only happen when you really need something?
We have about 10 HDs to choose from and have learned which ones seem to have good employees and which ones do not. That helps. Had great luck with the HD in Evergreen, but that's a bit far for you!!!
Is that Evergreen Colorado? I am SO ENVIOUS of you people who live anywhere but the Midwest. I'VE GOT TO GET OUT OF HERE.
"Dropped merchandise" covers at least two separate scenarios. One is the merchandise that gets dropped while being delivered to you. That sucks, but is understandable and can be dealt with. The other, however, is inexcusable and that is when it has gotten dropped somewhere back in time and the culprit shrugs it off and sends it on down the line to some poor sucker with a deadline. That is my main complaint with the big box stores. Regarding special orders: That's a definite no-no. I've had enough negative experiences with that to try again. Not to mention (but I will) the customer has to take all the risk by paying %100 up front. That is bull s**t. You pay %100, you've got no leverage.

I got a quote for $800 from the local lumber supply house. They were only open until 5pm, no weekends. They were very knowledgeable and helpful.
HD quoted me $600 for the same supplies. I faxed the order in, they pulled it, loaded it and I could pick it up at 6pm. I was remarkably surprised with the quality of the product and knowledge of the staff - they all seemed like career professionals. This is a distinct change from the last place I lived. The HD there was staffed with high-school students selling hockey sticks...
It is pretty tough for me to spend $200 more because I don't like HD corporate.
What to do - what to do...

Homey a Blows are changing the face of the lumber/plumbing/electrical markets. How to deal with it is the question. Whining about the way it used to be is pissing up a rope. I don't have the answers. But I would feel the same as you on a deal like you just did.
HD varies so much from store to store. I can drive 2 miles to one with crappy lumber, or 22 miles to one where you can pick some decent stuff out.

At least at HD the lumber is inside (for the most part.) I went to my local lumberyard last week and every stick of DF, kiln dried or not, was stacked out in the rain, where it has been for years. That's my only beef with the place, why do I want to spend the extra cash on some kiln-dried framing sticks that are as wet as the cheaper stuff?
I never met a tool I didn't like!
I think HD varies by location. Some good some bad. People swear by HD, others by Lowes. It just depends on the location.
