heating/cooling suggestions for 3rd floor renovation wanted
Finishing a single-family home – waterfront in New Jersey. Converting 3rd story into a single room ‘man-cave’. about 1,000 sq.ft. Modular building. Maybe 8 inches of space between ceiling and ridge. Knee walls already filled to heat/cool second floor. What are options for a single heating/cooling solution? Any idea if a reversible heat pump would be an option with winter temps routinely in the twenties? Have read some literature that indicates not, but dated. Have looked at SpacePak and Unico, but the Unico reversible heat pump is a minimum 3-ton unit. I believe that is too large for this space. Thanks in advance for your comments.

This is probably a good candidate for a mini-split heat pump. Size and model are things I don't know.
This reply is really more of a bump, because other Forum members, like Clewless, will come in with better specifics.
You have gas to the house? Maybe consider a wall furnace for heating. Cooling needs would depend on other factors like window orientation and protection from summer sun. I'm not that familiar w/ Jersey cooling needs ... how much can it be (I'm near Death Valley ;) )? Maybe a window shaker for cooling or a mini split. I'm guessing you have about 1, maybe 1 1/2 tons of cooling (but again REALLY dependent on window area and orientation). Your ceiling is insulated, right?
