I am currently guttig a rrom in my house, and I have considered rerouting some of the heating ducts to accomodate a change in the floor plan. My question is:
Do I have to put a register under the window?
I have noticed that in every house I have lived in with forced air heat, there is ALWAYS a register under the window. Why blow hot air onto a cold window? It doesn’t seem to add up.
Any help I can get will be appreciated.

If the supply register is located at floor level below a window, it will not blow directly at the window but the heat will be released at the coldest glass, infiltration)part of the room.
A "return", located on the opposite wall also is a good idea.
It's by the window so the warm air comes into the room at what is probably the coolest part of the room. Supply ducting to a room should be near exterior wall(s) and return(s) should be near the core of the house.
You may want to get a Heating/AC contractor to help you with your design. Your furnace/AC unit also needs to be properly sized to accomodate the new addition.
