Im looking for a set of plans to build a nice Rocking horse. I want plans for one that looks somewhat real, not the ones that look like there made of the scrap lumber in ones shop.
I have looked at Barns and Nobel and our library had no luck. Any sugestions?? If I could get them free off the intrernet it would be great.
Thanks

Have you searched the internet? Try typing "woodworking plans" or even "rocking horse plans" into the search engine of your choice. Your biggest problem might be the time it will take to sort through the hits.
try http://www.leevalley.com they have three really good looking rocking horse plans and an excellent mailorder service
caulking is not a piece of trim
Woodsmith magazine has an excellent set of plans, about 10 yrs old. I have built the horse and it is nice. Don't have the issue in front of me...I'll repost later. They also have step by step instructions on how to build it...almost foolproof...but still quitye a bit of work...well thought out design.

Just did a quick search at http://www.Rockler.com and came up with this one.

Glue up some wood in the general shape of a horse and cut off what doesn't belong there. Really. Use basswood if you're carving. Look at merry go round horses and other stylized horses, and also closely observe real horses. I believe you could transfer dimensions to maintain proportions for realism. This is something I would like to make also, ever since seeing an actual antique rocking horse from the early 1800s. I don't think the maker had any plans other than his trusty steed. It had a woolen mane and horsehair tail, leather saddle and stirrups, and had been painted. The rockers were steam bent, but were flattened from wear, as was the rest of the horse.
