Need a restoration specialist who knows about 200 year old homes.. Parents home is being worked on and the contractor did something that threatens the structural integrity of this old home/Historic Homestead.
Could anyone recommend someone in the Boston/Providence area who I or they could contact to come out and look at the house before more damage is done? Please Email me at [email protected]
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

You could try contacting the North Bennett Street School, they have a restoration carpentry program and may have a referral list.
Historic New England also has an historic homeowner help program, I don't know if they have referrals - their number is (617) 227-3957.
Also try your local historical society - they may have some resources or recommendations.
Call a structural engineer. I could look at it for you and probably tell you whether they screwed the pooch or not, but at the end of the day all you'll have is my opinion vs. another contractor's opinion.
If you need a structural engineer for the Boston area, let me know and I can email you a contact. He's a good guy. Usually about $400 for him to show up, have a look see, write up a report and prescriptive solution and stamp it.
I ran into Joe from Renaissance Restorations several months ago in Rhode Island. He's beein restoring Victorian and Antique homes for some time, and is what the old timers would call "an old house mechanic". Haven't heard from him in a while, I recall his email was:
[email protected]
