I want to install Mexican paver tiles on a 15-year-old exterior concrete slab patio. The concrete has a very smooth finish. I plan to put the tiles down with thinset mortar.

Is etching the slab with muriatic acid a sufficient surface preparation, or should I be doing more to rough up the slab prior to the thinset? What is the correct dilution of the acid? Does it need to be neutralized in some way, or is rinsing sufficient?

Should the slab be damp, and should the tiles be thoroughly moistened before installation?
