Help. Im in Tucson, AZ and am doing repairs on a house from around 1920/30. The walls are plaster and lath. Some cracks need repairing and there is one area with water damage where I had to remove about 2 ft. sq. of the plaster & lath. What is the best way to do these repairs and what are the best materials? Any info would be appreciated.

The best way is to hire a plasterer, no shortage of them in Tucson.
I'd have to see a photo of it to really help. Is it smooth? I assume it's wire lath. Do you want to stick with plaster all the way? Sometimes depending on the finish, situation, and your skill level (or lack thereof), you can easily inset a peice of sheetrock and tape the edges, If you're a good taper it will disappear.
If you want to go with plaster and have never really done plastering before, and this is a high visibility spot, ask around, maybe at the mason supply houses and you can find a plasterer, or maybe even in the yellow pages, but do hire to have it done.
If you're determined to try and do it yourself, send a photo and maybe I can talk you through.
Thanx for your suggestions. I guess I will just hire a plasterer (sigh).
Been sick so didn't extend my thanx earlier. by the way, it is plaster over wood lath. Interior if I didn't say so before
