Help me quick, before I put up sheetrock. I’ve got a joist in an old house split lenthwise. I plan to jack it shut and drive lags. Any other advice?

I would either sister on another joist or sandwich the old one with 3/4" ply and lots of thru bolts.

whats the span, size of joist and load above? judge your fix on the size of the problem. best of luck to ya
*In a similiar situation a year ago, we opted to sister a new joist up to the cracked one. No problems yet.
*Hi Bird.In this instance I think I would PL400 the split, then PL400 a sister joist, then get them both hung on a double joist hanger.I would not lag bolt anything. If you want to use bolts, use two 5/8" bolts with nuts and washers, about every 2-3'.But, I think 3 nails every 2-3', with the PL400, is enough.Hope this helps.PS: On the old joist, nip off a chamfer on the corner, with your sharp chisel, to get the joist hanger on.
*Another vote for no bolts, sister a new joist making sure that the result is flat in the floor's plane.
