Hey all,
Please bear with me on this one. I’m a new homeowner who has just aquired a HUD property. I’ve torn out the existing kitchen and purchased the marble tile I’d like to use.
I removed one piece of flooring, a 3’x5′ section and replaced it with hardibacker. Unfortunately, the 1/2″ hardibacker sits about 1/8″ lower than the rest of the floor, which is still covered in the tar paper (?) used to keep the previous tile in place. My work with a hot air gun on the paper has proven to be quite labor intensive.
Question 1: Do I need to remove the black paper, or can I level the existing floor out?
Before laying the marble tile, I’d like to install an electric floor. I’m fond of the NuHeat brand that I’ve read about.
Question 2: Is NuHeat a good way to go, or is there a better option?
Once I get around to laying the marble tile, I’d like to have some resources at my disposal– techniques, pointers, guides, how-tos.
Question 3: Where’s the best resource for teaching me how to install the tile?
Thanks!
