I need advice on cleaning rust stains off asphalt shingled roof. The rust was caused by rain hitting a galvanized chimney cover. Any ideas on removing the rust stains from earth tone roofing shingles.

Go to the automotive store and pick up a can of radiator cleaner with oxalic acid crystals in it. If it's just powdered oxalic acid that's ok too. It should be listed on the label. Take it home and mix in ratio of about 4:1 with water and brush the solution onto the stain, let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes and rinse. Try this, and any other experimental procedures, on a small piece first, or a sample of the roofing with some stain on it, before you go up on the roof and paint it all over, in plane sight for the neighbors to see.
