I find this 24 year old punk kid carpenter roaming around Pgh ...
and the next thing I know he pulls up to help me at a job in a truck worth more than my house!
... I'm doing something wrong ...

Dam right you are...Me to.

No, you're not - he has HUGE payments.
Nice truck Dante's got there.
Only differences I see are that (obviously) his is a Dodge and I've got an extended cab Ford. Also looks like he's got a Reading Aerotech body on his while mine is a Reading Classic II. Same System One ladder racks.
Pretty darn close though. Nice rig.

Brian,That is some good looking truck and the word "Framer" on the side is the best yet....;-)How do you like your racks?Joe Carola
Thanks Joe. I thought putting "framer" on the side would narrow down the people asking me to do things out of my target scope of work. It would also hopefully serve as crude advertising for GC's looking for a framer. I like to think the truck says that I'm in for the long haul and will be around next year, and the year after.....
Plus I think it looks cool. ;)
I think the racks are my favorite part of the truck. While doing the addition on my house we gave them a pretty good work out with trips to the lumber yard. The tie-downs just plain f'in rock. So fast, so easy, and so secure. You just know the load is going to stay put. Even if it's just the wall jacks up there, you know they aren't going to end up sticking out of the front of my trailer or the back window of the car in front of me. The guys at the lumber yards always think it's a nice set up.
Happy Turkey Day.
Brian,I have "Framing Specialist" on my trucks and for the same reasons you said. I've been a red lights or on the highway or at Dunkin Donuts before and had contractors and homeowners call me up and said the saw "Framing Specialist" on my truck and they needed a framer.I was at Blockbuster with my son once and I was helping Joey get into the truck and the guy that was behind me at Blockbuster came up to me and said that he read Framer and he just had his foundation put in and need a Framer and I met him the next day and sold the job. It was an add-a-level and two story addition off the back of the house. He was doing all the rest of the work himself but needed a Framer. Just like some GC's or even any other trades need Framers sometimes for bigger projects that they can't handle. If I just have my name on the truck without "Framing Specialist" on it I'm just competition to another contactor that will see my truck. I think if you specialize in something it should stand out because it has worked for me ever since I put "Framing Specialist" on my truck. Before that I never once got a call from another Contractor, GC or Builder.
Joe Carola
Well now that Jeff brought it up...I bought this truck because he was saying what a nice guy Brian was. He said it was a shame Brian couldn't pull the Cat with a Ford. So, being the nice guy that I am, I bought this truck to help out the Ford owners that cannot pull anything larger than a 4x6 lawnmower trailer.
I must admit that I like the look of the ford tucks better. They look a little more agressive but the "deal" on this was too good to pass up.
Sorry bud.... I don't play the "Dodge Sukks, Chevy rules" type games. Been around or owned 'em all and am not terribly impressed with any of 'em. All yer doing when buying a truck is buying the "devil you know" or the lesser of two evils. Kinda like the last presidential election. Know what I mean?
Anytime you wanna try pulling the Cat with yer pickup, just let me know. 20,000lbs will turn your hitch into my hood ornament.
I hear you about finding the best deal. I went to Ford, GMC, and Dodge and told them exactly what truck I wanted them to build for me. Even told them I was going to their competition. Just told them I don't have time to haggle, I'm buying a truck, give me your best deal. Ford came in around 16K under MSRP. Looks like I'm driving a Ford for the next 5 years or so.
I feel the same...I was just messin with ya on the Ford/Dodge thing. Actually when I started looking I was determined not to get a chrysler product because of their transmissions or lack thereof.
The chevy utility beds on the lot had either knapheide or stahl (cant remember which) bodies which felt a little flimsy.
The Ford had reading classic bodies which I was fine with. I just couldn't see spending all that dough on a new truck when there are several other things that would be more beneficial from a business aspect.
I was driving past the dodge dealer near my house and this caught my eye: http://www.dodgeramtoolmaster.com/ It was on the lot with 14k miles for 28k. All flash...only a 6' bed, all decaled up, would have been a great rig if it was built on an 8' bed. Next to it however was the one I ended up buying. This thing was so well kept, I figured the previous owner probably defaulted on payments saving me a ton o' dinero.
Yall gott be on drugs too . <G>
I think I just saw a brand new 05 4wd short wheel base plain jane for 17,000 with warranty of 70 ,000 miles. That will pull a 16 foot bumper trailer enclosed tandem axles on any job thats driveable for about 7,000 dollars including skylights and driveable ramp. All for 24,000.
Dont discount the short bed on a 3/4ton pick up. Its one of a kind and its a trailer king! No long wheel base can operate with it .
Tim
And yer point is.....????
If I knew how to work this here computation machine. I'd change "FRAMER" to "FLAMER".
BTW, Your Red Sox seem to be improving.
Stacy's mom has got it going on.
Hilarious. But I'm thinking you need a hobby other than dreaming up ways to be witty on BT?
Yeah probably, but I'm just starting to master lame jokes.

My point is that truck with 14,000 miles on it for 28,000. How much is it new anyway?
Just suggesting the new truck and trailer would be the better value new.
Tim
Comprende. No need to shout.
When you said "you guys" I assumed you meant any of us with trucks costing more than 17K were on drugs.
I wasnt shouting .
That type showed up after I pasted that pic.
Tim
Here ya go, why pay $24k, you can get this one for $8k.

It could be a little bigger.
Tim
It was so expensive because it had some type of nav system, an integrated notebook computer with wireless connectivity, a bed slide, slide out peg board style racks on the insides of the bed.
Not saying it was worth it, just saying it had some neat features which I would probably never use.
See what I mean!
I hate this kid ... pain in the a$$ and smarter than us both.
trust me ... we'll all be working for him sooner or later ...
did I mention the he broke my hand last week?
seriously ... I stop by to help him at his GrandMa's house and I end up getting xrays ... I don't really like him ... just have to hang around to pick up the loose work he's always seems top have hanging around.
and when he pulls up on a job site ... it's like a school bos or garbage truck just drove by ... what is it with U diesel guys! Can't hear a damn thing!!

First off, Thanks for the nice compliments...
Now lets clear up this story...
I ask Jeff for a hand picking up a bucket of garbage...maybe 150lbs at most, If the bucket wasn't so awkward I would have done it myself. Well, he couldn't lift his share so he dropped it on his hand, u know, "bad grip" He is crying like a baby so I drive him to the hospital. Btw, There were a few kids there with broken bones, none were crying like Jeff. He gets an X-ray, negative of course, nurse puts on a band-aid and he stops crying and I take him home.
Thanks for looking after our boy. Letting him go play carpenter for the day is much cheaper than daycare. ;)
He's like that. Claims I nearly lobbed his hand off at Calvins this last summer. Just a mear scratch.

damn, the e-mail I got from him would lead one to believe the trash barrel itself weighted no less then a metric ton, plus the solid concrete that was flowing over the top, and his helper, you, wouldn't even try so Jeff stepped up and man handled it all by himself, until a little kitten jumped right under the bucket as he was about to set it down, so he took one for the team...
he didn't want to go to the emergency room at all but flowing blood finally made him light headed enough he relented, and all the women nurses were all over him pushing the ailing children aside just to get within reach.
It took no less then 100 stitches and 50 staples to hold it all back together, AND he went to work the next day...
Buck has quite an imagination, I really didn't want to get into the while story but...
the truth must have been lost when he pushed one of the small ailing children onto the floor as he staggered into the ER. The child's mother smacked Buck over the head with a nearby folding chair as he kicked the child outta the way. This is the incident that required a few stitches on the forehead and created the foggy memory.
As for him going to work the next day...must have been a result of the blow to the head.

btw ... nice work there!
that last jab was freaking genuis ...
