What does it mean when my screen keeps fading to pink. (No political jokes, OK) Instead of being a basic white background it will go pinkish, and then return to white. Does this mean I will finally get to trade in my 5 yr old computer for something faster? Tell me it’s a main frame problem, not my monitor, and maybe my DH will let me buy a new one. TIA for help. M.L.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. And also sorry to tell you, it's probably the monitor that is going out, not the computer proper.
Hey, you can use it as an excuse anyway. Why buy a new monitor and stick it on that yucky old computer ?
What kind of computer is it ? 486/pentium ? How much ram, how much hard drive, etc...
*I had a loose connection between my monitor and CPU that did the same thing. Thought I was gonna get me a new puter for sure. Alas, I still have my old 1995 Compaq piece of junk. I never realized just how out of date and antiquated Windows 95 really is. Everything now seems to use a bus connection, and software requires about 200 mz speed to work. I have serial ports, and 133 mz speed. I AM SO OLD AND OUTDATED!!! SANTA, YA LISTENING??????James DuHamel
*"Alas, I still have my old 1995 Compaq piece of junk."I still have a 486 running DOS that I use for some on-line stuff and for serious, "gotta get it out today" word-processing.Nothing approaches the speed, power and stability of WP5.1 running under DOS, although WP6 comes close.(Of course, I'm also writting this on my new P4 1. something gig with CD burner, DVD etc )
*> Nothing approaches the speed, power and stability of WP5.1 running under DOS, although WP6 comes close. Let's be honest. For word processing, "nothing approaches the speed, power and stability of" any WordPerfect version, except some other WordPerfect version.Rich Beckman
*Hey Mr Luka - how can I delete web addresses from the "address" line at the top of the page? I figured out how to delete entries from the "Favorites" area, but not the other one. You know, the line that shows where you are. If I type in an address up there rather than following a link, it's there forever.
*Ditto.
*I use Netscape 4.5. From the Edit menu, Preferences, then at the left of the opened window highlight Navigator. At the bottom of the window is a button to Clear Location Bar.Rich Beckman
*Just figured it out for Internet Explorer.....go to , then , then .....
*I don't play with IE. I prefer not to be taken advantage of.b : )
*Hey Mr. LukaHow come I have a computer from Dell and Windows ME and IE6something and not the slightest little thing has gone wrong with it in six months? Am I doing something wrong? I would hate to be tooken advantage of.
*They're just settin you up for a long hard fall, missy.b : )
*Hey Luka, have you replaced Gabe as the answer man?;-)Mary
*Ok Phil, where do I find 'Tools'?
*And the fall has just begun this afternoon.........
*Oh really ? Anything I can help with ?
*Hi Luka, Don't apologize, I've been stayin' away. I was figurin' I'd get burned at the stake for one of my other posts. It's a pentium, but 5 yrs old, and slower that molasses in January. I'll check my connections after I shut down tonight. Bob, Rich, what are you doing using wordperfect in the States. I thought that was a Cndn programme. Hardly anyone I know uses it, but I find it pretty good. WP 10 (2000) has most of the bugs ironed out.
*I use WordPerfect because it is an excellent program. When I worked at the local Housing Authority, I used WordPerfect (and WordPerfect i only)to create a relational database and macros that reduced a day of work to thirty seconds.I didn't know it was a relational database at the time. It was cool.Rich Beckman
*Ed,...right at the top of the page....File..Edit..View..Favorites......TOOLS....
*What in heaven's name ;^Q is a 'relational database' Does that have anything to do with drawing a family tree?
*Not to step on Rich's toes, but here is a link to a description of a relational database. They are cool.http://searchdatabase.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid13_gci212885,00.htmlBTW, this is a great site for tech words: http://www.whatis.com (which is where I got the RDB definition, above). An RDB is quite similar to a family tree in that you have main categories and subcategories, but it's not generally designed for "relationships" as in SIL, etc., but rather for associating a single identifier (Social Security Number, e.g.) w/someone and all their associated data (DOB, address, etc.), so all the material is sortable on any field.
*I'm another WordPerfect fan. every time I've tried to use Word, I go running back to WP. Much better. If only Quattro pro, presentations and Paradox were as good...A relational data base has the advantage of allowing you to mix and match the data very freely (that's the relational part) and change the data structure after its been set up. It has the disadvantage of being fairly slow to find and retrieve data compared to older database schemes such as binomial searches. It depends on your needs as to whether speed or flexibility is more important.Mary
*Why Thank you, KaiThat gets a bookmark for next semester's courses on creating a database.
*Hey, if youse wanna get the BEST relational database, youse need to buy Oracle's product.(not that I'm biased or anything....)
*Depends on your needs. Oracle couldn't do what we needed it to do. Had to go with Informix. But we are talking really high powered and fast engines handling many gigs of data every day.Mary
*Phil, I can't find a 'tools' button on my 3.0 screen. But I'll keep looking....
*Alright, I guess it wasn't a relational database. I was told that a relational database was when you had two databases that linked to each other. That's what I did. It was still cool. I'm sure in three months it had saved more time than it took me to set it up.Rich Beckman
*imho, WordPerfect 5.1 for Dos was the best word processor ever ..... simple, stable, and elegant .....not bloated like much if not all of the current software. WordPerfect had ported their office suite to Linnux ....then Microshaft comes and offers financial help to WP in return for taking their Linnux product off the market (WordPerfect has been having financial difficulties). It's a shame .....I think this could have been the product that mainstreams Linnux.
*As I understand it, anyone using linux could still 'port' WP to linux if they want to. As long as they don't change the WP itself, is there some sort of restriction that keeps everyone else from making some intermediary step that allows the standard WP to be used in linux ?
