Its amazing they make it sound like the standard US home is a 3800 – 4300ft2 5 bedroom 5 bath complete with the mandatory granite and stainless appliance kitchen, huge MAster bedrooms, hot tubs and on and on Who owns HGTV???? – is it people who build homes or make appliances?? Wonder why there is not a channel pushing smaller but still nice cottage homes especially for us folks where there is only two in the house now. just bitcxxing i guess. They never mention the monthly utility bill.

Not only is the standard home above 3800 SF, its also close to a million $.
What -- you not got one of those?
Yea. the editors of the home mags also live in a different world.
They print things like:
"....the average kitchen reno costs 105,000 dollars...."
and
"the architect on this bathroom renovation had to work within the confines of the existing walls " (17' x 12' !!!!! for a bathroom?!! Sh*T! thats bigger than my entire kitchen/dining area!!
I'd like to see a show and/or magazine entitled "Real Homes" that showcased realistic middle-class homes.
...that showcased realistic middle-class homes
Unfortunately, those McMansions HAVE been the "normal" (but not realistic) middle-class homes, and that's why we're in the economic mess we're in now. :-(Ann"The elders were wise. They knew that man's heart, away from nature, becomes hard; they knew that lack of respect for growing, living things, soon led to lack of respect for humans, too." Chief Luther Standing Bear, Lakota Sioux
Yes, that's why I said "realistic" instead of "normal".
God is REAL, unless explicitly declared INTEGER
I get a kick out of it when they start tossing "values" around! You can pretty much tell how old the taping is on alot of those properties. My wife and I always look at each other and give it the, "not worth that now" comment!

Not only that, but if you took what you see there as an example, one would suppose the US is about 70% people with "alternative" lifestyles.
