Was looking at 8′ flor. fixtures for shop at Lowes and they had 8′ fix ; using t-12 bulbs for $33 and a 8′ hi- output fixture using t-12 bulbs for $55 .They claim the hi-output fixture gives 40% more lite. are they worth the extra price? Are they just a better fixture with better ballast resulting in more lumens?Whuch would u go with? Its a heated shop space.

Not sure about the Lowes fixtures but we installed Lithonia I-Beam 4', 6 bulb fluorescent in our shop last year and they are nothing short of amazing!
I think they are a T-8 bulb, only about 5/8" in diameter and really, really bright. Cold startup and flicker are not a problem although they take about a minute to get to full intensity if it is below about 45 degrees.
I can't recommend them enough. I think we paid around $125/fixture from local electrical distributor.
"High Output", as well as every other variant of the T-12, is obsolete.
Save yourself some grief ... make the jump to 4 ft. long T-8's. Brighter light, better light, and better operation at cold temps. Less noise too.
The best part? If it's too bright, just remove a bulb ... the others remain lit.
