Question regarding wall assembly/moisture control design for hillside basement(West Coast of Canada – wet climate. Back wall will be below-grade; side walls only back end below grade, rest above grade, front above grade. Joseph Lstiburek’s “Builder’s Guide to Cold Climate” shows wall assembly with inside venting for externally insulated concrete basement below grade and examples of wall assembly with drying to the exterior for above grade. For the above grade portion of the walls, I like to switch to stick framing, classic cold climate wall assembly. Question: Is it ok to have drying to the interior on concrete portion and drying to interior on wood framed portions?

Hi Uschi,
Framing the exposed portion of your foundation built on a sloping lot is standard proceedures. In our climate, I prefer to insulate inside the concrete portion of the foundation.
My advice to you would be to pay extreme attention to drainage, instead. If you are lax in any way in ensuring proper drainage, your foundation will leak like a sieve.
