Does anybody know who manufactures vinyl ext. shutters that come with hinges and holdbacks (shutterdogs)? I’d appreciate any help.

Probably the same company that made the gold insignia package for the Yugo ...
*Dan, don't get the wrong idea. Jeff's post would be what is called "a good one".Sorry, don't know of any.
*Dan - Calvin's trying to take the edge off my point which is that you've i alreadygot the wrong idea. My point, with hopefully some humor, is that you seem to be looking for a nice period-appropriate hardware combination (hinges, pintles and dogs) pre-combined with fake plastic shutters. Reconsider. Not even wood shutters come as "a set" with hardware - it's all ordered separately although you can get most of the wood shutter companies to prime/paint if you like their prep/paint job.At what point do we just give up and fake it all? How about injection-molded fake wood-grain houses? Right around the corner. As always, objecting to the plastification of our buildings ... Jeff
*Jeff said: "As always, objecting to the plastification of our buildings..."Well put, Jeff.[It's going to be interesting to see how long the McMansions last - decades down the road from now.]We just re-installed the original wood shutters on our 1904 home, complete with [reproduction] hardware and hinges and you wouldn't believe what a difference it made!Plus, we just close the shutters to clean behind them and when we're in a mood to be cloistered. IMHO, vinyl is for lawn furniture, not houses. Rose
*Taking it a step further, the plastic shutters I've seen have the slats sloped the wrong way... The slats in a true shutter should slope downwards when the shutter is closed, not when it is in the open position.Besides looking cheap, plastic shuttes come in only a couple of widths, and cannot always be sized to match the width of the window. Nothing, of course, looks much worse than a couple of 15" shutters flanking a 5' wide picture window, except I once saw shutters mounted to the wall of a home on each side of a bay window. There's some handsome hand-wrought shutter hardware here at Colonial Williamsburg, and I think you can find some through restoration catalogs.Good luck (and the handsome wooden shutters you're now gonna buy will last through the decades with some reasonable maintenance effort) Steve
*Dan, operative question... operative? Are you looking for a operational vinyl shutter? If so, outta luck Dude. It would need to be of solid construction.Decorative Only? I don't think they've gone to that detail level with the vinyl shutter process yet.See above for worthwhile advice.
*How the hell do you mortise a hinge into a plastic shutter?Ed. Williams
*Gee, Rose, I thought teak was for lawn furniture ... :) Jeff
