Hello
We have been talking with an individual in Canada and he is interested in coming to work for us here in the states. Anyone out there have a quick answer to what all I need to have for his employment here? I have combed the INS site and the paper work there. It seems he can come in with some kind of employment sponsorship. I understand the I-9 form and the pieces of id that are needed there. Then there are the tax implications for Canadians. Something to do with NAFTA he could be taxed in both countries and may not have to pay SS tax since he would possibly still pay to Canada’s system.
Do Canadians have to have a SS card just like everyone else? My common sense says yes but my research doesn’t give me the quick answers to this complex issue.
Any one with experience with this issue? The INS certainly doesn’t believe in plain English or check lists. hahaha
Thanks much in advance!
Take good care

Candi, you might try calling the main office of NAHB - bet they have info for you.
*Candi, using http://www.lycos.com's search engine, I typed in: "Canadian immigration workers", and also separately typed in: "Canadian immigration workers to United States", got a slew of web sites. Check them out. Also, the Industry Standard (theindustrystandard.com) - May 8 issue - has a very large article entitled "Huddled Masses Yearning to Write Java" about importing immigrants into the USA for work. This particular article is mainly about hi-tech but most of the info applies to general immigration.Happy site and info hunting.
*Thanks sonny!I have combed the search engines and read so much on this that it has all turned to mush.Government and it's red tape! UGH! We don't want to be liable for his return to canada if it doesn't work out here so I was looking for any feedback that may be available from our famed forum members. I found a forum and am attempting to see if there are attorney types that may have some answers as well.Take good care!Candi
