I bought a hitachi 3×21 belt sander. what a piece of crap. I would give the model# but I returned it so fast I did’nt think to write it down. usually I like hitachi tools so I grabbed it off the shelf expecting a quality design. wont do that again
first off the plate is 4 1/2″ wide. that under a 3″ belt makes it nearly useless for contour sanding. you have to crank the belt over to the edge of the plate until the belt is hanging partially off the wheels, then sand with the one side of the belt
I could overlook that, maybe, if the thing did’nt throw half of the waste (dust) in my face. there’s no front over the belt so if your holding the sander vertically you get a mug full
very poor design

I like hitachi for nailers and I got one of their recips free with a shingle purchase, that works very well. But otherwise, I think their electric tools are definitely second rate compared to milwaukee, makita, dewalt and bosch.
