is anyone aware of a checklist for home inspection. we are buying a house and i feel pretty confident that i can carry this out but would like a checklist so i don’t overlook anything major. thanks.

You're right, Sam. I've been getting their free catalogue for several years. Every one here should sign up for it.
I admire your confidence and intent, but having a "check list" will not necessarily mean that you have the experience to pick up the visual clues to underlying problems within your chosen house.
Most check lists for house inspections are used as a starting point to allow an inspector to punch list items of potential concern....the list is often only an outline and is lacking in details, methods and explanations of how a thorough inspection is carried out. The inspectors training, background and on site experiences build his repertoire of expertise.
Consider hiring a "competent professional inspector".....he will "see" far more than the list you seek.
