I am putting together a protype New Home Owner’s Manual I plan on pitching to builders and I would like to include a maintenance section. Anyone with ideas as to what would be valuable information to include? I am working off the concept in the March 1998 FHB. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

What do you mean by "maintenance"? Preventive maintenance schedules and the like? Also, why only new houses? Ever look at a used house and note that the instructions for the furnace aren't anywhere to be seen? Why not pitch a version to Realtors also? Get them to sell them to their home selling clients as a further home attraction. Much better than the worthless one year warranty.

Barry,
Thanks for the reply. I quess I am open to any suggestions about the maintenance section I am putting together for my Home Owner's Manual. I agree there is a market for the existing home market but I am just trying to get my foot in the door and in order to do that I need to offer a product to builders that they find a value added service in. I think there should be some standard maintenance recommendations that would fit most homes. Things like the furnace, water heater, AC, etc. Basic exterior maintenance for various sidings. Maintenance of various flooring products, windows, doors etc. My goal is to provide information that will allow people that don't know a thing about owning a house information that will insure their investment delivers maximum bang for the buck.
Thanks again Barry

Readers Dijest beat you to it by a zillion years and you could never match their How to book unless you copied it....So copy it...

Jack,
Thanks for the input. I was not aware of the Reader's Digest you mentioned. Is it a book or article. Perhaps I could just supply a copy of the book with each manual.
Thanks again

Bryon,
Now that's an idea I like and am gonna definitely use (provide Readers Dijest "How To Book".)...By the way, you must be the only person who has never visited the "How To" book section of a book store and now HD. Go visit...Good books on every construction specialty.
