I installed some xenon (or were they halogen?) puck lights in my kitchen. They really work well, provide clean and bright light. But, they also heat up the cabinets pretty noticably.
I was wondering if there is a installation “technique” to keep the cabs from getting too hot, or if you’re more often installing flourescent for this reason?

I usually ask the HO what kind of UC lighting they want, then demonstrate both xenon/halogen and flourescent. The flourescent makes colors look cold and food unappitizing, so most go with the other. I usually build a false bottom on cabs, and leave about 1" of airspace between the bottom of the shelf and the light housing.
You used the Halogen, requires the converter. The Xenon does not burn as hot which is one of the advantages.
Our company almost always installs the xenon in a strip light housing similiar to what the flourescents come in.
Glass swing down lens and nice light.
Never too hot.
The halogens can pose a fire risk, I stopped using them years ago.

I had saved a box, I'll look for it or call the electrician for the brand.
If you email me I might even remember.

Thanks!
They look great. I also liked the Brite Strip units.
No, how can I get some? Do they sell directly?

Are those the kichler units? if so they are nice units. I've installed them a couple times. They are hot though, one customer left them on all day then complained that his bread was cooking in the cabinet.
You have the halogen, heats up pretty good.
I use them for undercabinet lighting and the cabinet above as a plate warmer.
I wonder if you put some small washers around the screws to space the lights some distance, say ¼", below the cabinet if you'd get significantly less heat transfer.
