Good Day, Im hoping someone here can help. Is there a place in Canada (Ontario specifically) that I can get new or refurbed Hot water rads ( the cast iron ones) I live in an old house ( moved in 7 months ago) and discovered upon possession that 3 rads had frozen last winter and cracked. The system seems to work extremely well except where they replaced the old rads with new ones that look like baseboard heaters ( I understand these require higher water temps and faster flowthru) Any Suggestion?

Marc,
The problem with mixing iron radiators w/ copper fin tube convectors is that they both heat up and subsequently radiate heat at very different rates. For example, in the normal house, the circulator turns on when the thermostat calls for heat. The hot water gets pumped to the radiation loop and heats up the copper very fast..........while heating the iron very slow. By the time the Cast iron radiators are giving off heat, the area with copper fin tube may already be too warm. The fix is to use a mixing valve and a system that allows the valve to open adding more hot water to the radiation loop as needed. E-mail me w/ any questions. [email protected]
