I’ve seen some users lean 2×4 against right leg, holding saw in RH and stud in LH, with saw more vertical than horizontal, to allow for gravity-assisted cuts.

KAS - you got the jist of it. Gravity is your friend. Whenever possible, tip or position the lumber so that the saw "falls" through it as it cuts. - jb
