HI guys,
I have an existing brick fireplace that I would like to box in with drywall but I don’t know how to connect it to the existing brick. I don’t really know how to explain it but what I want to do is cover up the existing fireplace by boxing it in floor to ceiling. PLease look at the picture I have attached. Enjoy my wonderful MS Paint skills 🙂 That’s what I’m trying to do.

My question is how do I tie in to meet the brick with drywall? How do I make it firesafe? I would prefer to hide all of the brick.

Are you puting in a gas insert?
If not you need to have a metal seperation between the firebox & the drywall.
I have seen them at fireplace shops hollow metal with a flame retardent style insulation in it.
