unfinished tongue and groove cedar planking on ceiling has water stains from a roof leak . Does anyone have any suggestions ? sanding would change surface and would cause the entire ceiling to be sanded .25′ X 15′

According to Shell Busey, in Vancouver Province, you can wash with 50:50 water and vinegar, scrub with a soft brush and blot dry with a towel. Continue until all stains are removed. Dry with hot air.
Who knows. Good luck.
the log homestore (wwwLogHomeStore.com )has several products for cleaning logs and decks. might work for ceilings too.
I worked on a log home last year . The guys on the job first used house wash and then switched to bleach , I was amazed . It worked great! The logs were pine though, it was very messy and the ceiling was the worst mess. Also I will have to treat entire ceiling .I now have two solid ideas to try .thanks keep em coming

I've used a product from my local stain/paint store (Daly's in Seattle) on a piece of antique furniture that was covered in white water marks and it worked perfectly. Don't recall the name, but it came in a plastic jar but inside it was a little rag, like a tak cloth, but not quite as sticky.
This cabinet had a finish on it, so I don't know if it's worth pusuing for you, but if you want to try a specialized stain making shop, I'm sure they'll know of the product.
Good luck.

Something with Oxalic acid should work. Test it first. Behr (Home Depot) makes a deck cleaner I've used in a pinch with a variety of acids that took the water stain out of a birch door.
