I would like to install maple flooring salvaged from a school gym. It still has the varnish and in places paint marks for out-of-bounds, foul-shot, etc. It has been stored outdoors for many years, so I am guessing it needs a very good drying indoors. (Anyone know how long?)
I am thinking I should plane it after it has dried some to cut the varnish and make sure I don’t end up with a paint marks here and there. (But I wonder if that step is a waste if I have to sand it after it is laid.)
And, I am worried about the edges butting together ok. Do I need to do something about the varnish that has slopped onto the edges? And if so, what?
Comments, suggestions or reference material on how I should proceed are appreciated.
Thanks!

SC,
I think it would be most cool to lay the key right smack dab in the middle of the room. What a conversation pc.
Best of luck.
Get the moisture content down to about 8% I think.
