I re-finished my maple floors a couple of years ago using Petri oil-based glossy polyurethane. Its held up really well, but some fine to medium scratches have appeared due to kids and dogs.
Any recommendations for how to remove the scratches? Someone recommended that I simply brush some ploy over the scratches. However, my furniture finishing experience tells me this probably isn’t a good idea.

Refinish it. You can't "repair" poly. Strip it, Sand it, and Add some new coats.

I was afraid that would be the answer.
*As long as you would otherwise be committed to stripping and refinishing the floor, if there are just a few scratches, go at it like a built-up "piano finish." That is, using 400-grit wet/dry, with mineral spirits as a lubricant, rub the scratch out, then move to 600-grit, then polish out with a polishing compound. Many are available on the market, but the easiest would be go to the local auto parts store, buy a small can of "medium," then a small can of "fine" rubbing compound. Follow the directions, and just see. Maybe you won't have to strip and refinish the floors. Small surface scratches might simply be buffed out with first a coarse, then medium, then fine rubbing compound. Urethane finishes--especially cured ones--polish quite readily. Good luck.
