my trip to the glass shop.
i am homeowner – had two one piece no muntin double pane casement style windows clouded up.
took one off, casement style, took ( I guess its called the sash part) it to the glass shop I used 10 years ago – they were in new location – I left glass with wood frame side pieces .
Strike ONE: Next day, too out another window, frame needed work, I undid the corner screws, took just the glass in. man in back came out and measured the window. long short story when i got the ticket they had the thickness wrong – actual was 7 / 16 not 1/2 in. thick they put on ticket – i told them, they said oh we will measure again – 7/16. so they ordered it. A near miss. 1/2 would not have fit in the gasket trim.
Strike TWO: when I picked up the window in the frame I saw that when they took the window apart, they took a ballpoint pen and wrote “1” on two corner piece and “2” on the other two corner pieces. Deep enought to go thru the varnish into the wood.
Is this a South Carolina thing or do other folks have these problems.
I have two more windows to go, I have found another glass shop. Maybe they will be better.

I think that is common, when it is your personal project, noone can be careful or safe enough. When you do it all day long in a production environment, you can get careless.
Wain...don't mean to insult ya, but how do you deal with any other idiots in your daily life. I think you already answered your own question...you find another vendor. The mechanic tells me I need new spark plugs in my 350 Diesel...I find a new mechanic...no mystery there.
Try taking your glass over to HD and see if it makes you feel any better! ;)
good point
plus they prob do not do double pane windows
when i read the headline i wondered, "why are you shopping for an idiot in the first place? did the one in your village move away or retire?" ;-)
oh, now i get it- you mean vendors who are idiots- unfortunately, you should be able to find those just about anywhere. no shortage in north carolina or colorado- other guys will have to report on the other states.

I have had similar experiences with glass shops. Mine was a sash which was obviously stained to show on the inside, and they reassembled it by nailing on the stained side, even worse they didn't pull the tenon all the way together first. It looked bad enough even they agreed to redo it without question. Still not perfect, but better.
First I heard of someone else with similar story. Must be a glass shop thing.
you want to talk about idiots. I have the corner market on these, come on down , I show you what happen when a tree don't fork.

The trouble is that these shops don't really have to compete. Even in a city where there are dozens of glass operations, nobody ever really shops around, customers just go through the Yellow Pages and pick one. Repeat business ? Not likely, glass is not a regulr purchase..

Glass shops aren't used to having their mistakes found out, but it's clearly visible that you can see right through them.

I know ;-0 it's a bad one But I got my quota to think of.
