How many boneheads does it take to ch…

My part timer, Booger, is back on again. He just told me this story: he was working on a crew, came onto a job site with some carpenters already working there. they were cutting on a chopsaw, which was making screeching noises, lots of smoke, etc. Booger wanders over, one of the guys says “Boy, I don’t know what’s going on. It’s a new blade two weeks ago”. Booger takes a look. It’s on backwards. For two weeks, all day everyday, several guys using it.

*Sure it would, that's how we cut vinyl siding, but you didn't hear that from me because I have taken the FHB oath and promise to never use vinyl (unless I can make money). Are Canadians that easy? Is it time for Canadian jokes? Or would that be unsportsman like? Eh?

*Adrian, NOW I understand your comment about 300 new carpenters... sounds like Booger latched into a cluster. Patrick, just like a 'Bec'r... start calling people names. Tres Francais Ami. Oh, yeah... hows the Loonie doing, still on par with the LIRA?Geez, even the Peso's better than that.

*Is it possible that "Booger" doesn't have his head screwed on straight? you know, kind of got a "twisted" perspective on this whole blade thing? - yb

          2. Guest_ | May 02, 1999 04:50pm | #6

*Nope, Boogers solid. if he says he saw it, he saw it. And george, these are the guys who are already working in the field here; the next 1100 man contingent don't take the field until the mine closes next year. One of the local tool guys told me he's sold over 50 tablesaws since Christmas. On the subject of Americans vs Canadians: give me a break. I've heard enough horror stories on this forum coming from Stateside that I'm not too worried about any digs coming from THAT quarter.

Forget the saw. . . I 'd like to see what the "rest" of the job looks like. . .

*Adriani that quarterwould be 35 cents U.S.GeorgeI didn't want J.D. to think he has to hold himself back because of any perceived i delicate sensibilitiesup here. While Gabe is doing his best to rewrite the global perception of i concilliatory (read namby-pamby) CanadiansI wanted to be sure you didn't think he was a one man vitriol crew. ;}The Canadian $$ is recovering nicely, thank you, and after we bury you in trade imbalances, we'll probably reinstate it i at par!!Bye the by. . . Canada has never needed any help from the IMF, and we always pay our U.N. dues!!! :}-pm.

*Hmmph. The U.S. pays the lion's share of the UN budget -- and a larger fraction of the GDP. And they won't even do what we tell them! :)Lots of backwards saw blades at the UN.

          6. Guest_ | May 03, 1999 01:37pm | #10

*It doesn't sound as bad as it looks. Maybe they are using a hand honed steel blade from back in the 70's.We used to get em so sharp, that they would cut backwards for two weeks!Humbly, Blue

*How did a sawblade mis-installment comment turn into a U.S./Canadian diatribe? Is the key to understanding this able to unlock the soccer game violence phenomenon?

          8. Guest_ | May 06, 1999 07:09am | #12

*Andrew>"The U.S. pays the lion's share of the UN budget"???Sorry bud but you're exactly WRONGThe U.S. hasn't paid it's U.N. dues in many years, the outstanding balance owing is $1.2 Billion, that'sb B as in Billion$$$Despite Ted Turner's attempt to shame your gov't into paying up by donating $1.B of his own change. For info check here http://www.thestar.com/back_issues/ED19981111/opinion/981111NEW02_OP-GWYN11.html What's the GDP got to do with it???-pm

            *Exactly my point. :)

*A week after this topic went up, I installed my bench saw blade backwords. Cut a couple of baseboards and I couldn't figure out where the burnt smell was coming from. Then I tried cutting a 2x and figured it out pretty quick. So, I say the answer is one bonehead. I had no help. Then the board went down and I couldn't post this!Rich Beckman

*today everybody has carbide, I bet most guys would be astonished how sharp a fresh HSS blade is! (I'm not saying they stay sharp very long though) -yb
