I got a load of 16′ – 2 x 6’s in … 150 of them to start building the shop.
I know all lumber warps … and you always order 10% extra.
On 16 ft walls,. warping is really not a problem .. easy to straighten.
The first two have no edge …. that is to say they had bark so there is less than 1/2 the edge usable. I figure these are scrap as if sheathing comes together there , there will be nothing to nail it to (funny on both boards, the edge is missing on both sides).
Now my question … warp … pulled 4 more boards (just in order off the pile) …
Bow … 0, 1/4″, 3/8″ and 5/8″
Sure some of these I will cut for blocking and window sills but I can’t use them all.
Before I call the lumber yard and bitch, I wanted to know what is generally accepted in the trade?
On a 16 ft stud wall, I would “guess” a 1/4″ is fine but 3/8″ ???
And definitely not 5/8″ I would think.
Just wanted to know what I should expect and what I should ask them to exchange (hoping at $25 a crack they will).
Thanks!

Right now, you should count yourself lucky to find any studs. Almost everything that shows up on the job is crap at the moment. On a 16 ft. high shop wall, I wouldn't look twice at a 3/8 in. bow. Just point all the bows in the same direction (crown your studs) and select the straightest ones for around windows and doors.
Exactly what I started doing. I made a couple of sort piles .... straight, bowed and spiral. On 16 ft, spiral is super easy to correct (nailed one end ... put a pipe wrench on the other ... straightened ... nail it).
The worst bow, I will use for blocking and cripples.
After 7 years of looking at this pad, I picked the wrong time to decided to build.
Thanks!
