I am repainting some windows that I just rebuilt the frames for. My question is how much of the old paint do I have to remove. I took the first window down to bare wood…but it took way to long. These are very old windows and are in good shape. Several layers of paint have to be removed and the detail is quite intricate. I hope to stop once I get to sound paint.
Any suggestions (I had to agree to paint them once they were out of the frame and the owner saw how badly the insides looked.

I'm not an expert, but I would think that as long as you get it down to a point that the paint is holding well you should be fine. Just remember to ruff it up with some sand paper first.
You might try to repost your message in the Construction Techniques folder. There isn't very much action in here.
