Just moved into a new house with a screened porch over a screened porch. Both porch floors are ChoiceDek with Royal Wood Tongue and Groove ceilings. The second story porch was not sloped and no provision was made for channeling the water. The first floor porch has a ceiling fan and light.
The problem is that when the wind blows rain or snow onto the second story porch the water pours through the ceiling sometimes for hours after the rain has stopped.
The builder has removed the ceiling from the first story porch. The plan is to slope the first floor ceiling by adding wood to the second story floor joists which create a slope, add a heavy plastic liner, add guttering on one or both sides of the first floor porch, and then replace the ceiling. The idea is that there is no way to prevent the water from going between the Choice Dek planks. So the goal is to divert the water to the gutters thus preventing the leaks to the first story porch.
Any suggestions or comments for fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated.
