How to detail flashing(?) of vertical joint b/w conc. wall and framed wall?
Hi
I am trying to come up with a detail for the flashing or waterproofing of the vertical joints in the new construction home I am designing.
It is a walk-out basement. Towards the front of the house the basement walls are full height concrete. At the back of the house there is a step in the concrete walls down to 36′ high with 2×6 pony wall on top. At this step there is a vertical joint between the 2×6 framed wall and the concrete wall.
Does anyone have any good details for sealing/waterproofing this joint?
(I was thinking of adhering peel-n-stick membrane to the end of the concrete wall (between the 2×6 and concrete) before placing the 2×6 wall. Then wrap the peel-n-stick over the sheathing, backwards with the sticky side out, and then adhere the housewrap to the peel-n-stick.)
Thanks
John

John, for this detail we like to cut a vertical groove with a grinder in the concrete about 1" from the framing. We then bend a piece of flashing with a "v" to go into the groove and a flat section to extend onto the sheathing. The "v" is pressure fit into the groove and then sealed with a masonary caulk. The flat section gets nailed to the sheathing and covered with ice and weather. When we run the siding we allow it to extend over the foundation enough to cover the flashing and the groove. Hope that helps.
