My question relates to re-newing exterior stucco. I want to re-stucco over old stucco some of which has been painted. I am told you can’t re-stucco over paint and my choices appear to be sand blasting, soda blasting or to remove the stucco.
I am also concerned about how much stucco weight my house can carry and how the new coat to cover up will hold up. Now I have a heavy California Stucco, deep trawl marks and would like to go to a smooth finish requiring a fair bit of stucco.
Any hints on dealing with the paint and what to look for in refinishing to assist me i my discussions with contractors would be appreciated.

Are you sure you want to restucco...3 layers at 1" thick? or do you just want to re-color coat... 1 layer 1/16" + texture thick? if the original stucco scratch and brown coats are in good shape, a recolor coat will reNEW your home... and you get the benefit of NO visible cracks in the stucco.
