How would you start an 8’x32′ Porch?
I have the 8’x32′ concrete porch floor finished, and the walls framed for the first story.
There are six embedded 3/8″ foundation bolts across the porch’s front edge. I have four 6″x6″ turned posts, mounting them to the porch floor with the one bolt would seem to be a wobbly feeling.
Both pressure treated 4×4’s and 4×6’s that are 16′ long for all the framing members. Would attach the members with Simpson’s?
The porch decking is 5/8″ Cool Ply that matches the gambrel roof decking.
Below the picture on the left is the model I’m building.
How would you start and construct the porch with a 2′ over hang on each end and on the front?
Thanks for your experience and input.

Those 6x6s arent going to be wobbling when you get some weight on them. And after the handrail is tied in they won't be going anywhere.
Set posts .... determine cutoff w/laser. Put up temp. bracing.
Build Box on top of posts.
Put in ledger and CJs.
Remove temporary post bracing.
Build handrail.
Eat lunch.
Cut shed rafters.
Nail shed rafters.
Deck.
Felt.
Shingle.
Go Home.
Do the stairs tomorrow.
(I know I didn't answer your Simpson question, but maybe someone else will)

Brady, could you describe and explain "Build box..."?

I understand about the top ledger board, but what are "CJ's"? I'm using 4x4's and 4x6 materials for the porch frame. Attach to each other with lag bolts?

Thanks for the help, and Rez, thanks for bumping it through for more exposure and help.

Simpson post standoff. Bolt standoff to porch using 3/8 embedded bolts. Nail post to standoff. If standoff detracts from porch, trim around base to hide same.
Have a sparkling evening.

I would drill a 3/8 inch hole in the bottom of the posts and set them on the bolts (lets hope the bolts were laid out accurately). The "box" I am referring to is the outside perimeter of your ceiling joists. You can build the box first, lay out for the rest of the CJ's (ceiling joists), and the fill in... face nailing through the front band and using joist hangers on the ledger. Now that I see you are using 4x4s and 4x6s, this may not be the best way.
Greetings Bill,
Will you be naming the porch after Lowes? :o)
