What is the deal with all these saw zaws with the quick change blades. They all seem to have tons of play in them and when you use a metal cutting blade its even worse. Who has a good new saw that does not do this? Ive had a porter cable for 16 years and it was great but someone borrowed it. I dont remember who, but when I find out I’m gonna kill them (not literally). I have a Ridgid and it Blows!!!
Thanks, Lou

I have a PC Tigersaw and a cordless Dw. Neither seem to have a problem, and sideways option on the Dw is awesome.
What brand saw ya gripeing about? And more importantly, what brand blades?
I use almost exclusivly Lennox Fire and rescue...thems some good blades.
Must be your saw. I absolutely love mine, the Milwaukee super sawzall. For years I changed the blade with the allen key which was lost after the first month, and it was such a PITA. P.C. Tiger saw is a great one and I've heard good things about the new Makita.
I've got a super orbital Milwaukee. Love the saw, but hate the quick change. If the holder is back in the body of the saw, I can't get enough of a grip on the thing to turn, then when I finally do get it to turn, I've got to fight with the blade to get it in, or out...which, of course I have to do to get the danged thing back in the case<G> Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press
Whoever it is I wish they'd cut it out but when they will I can only guess.
They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy,
She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me.
I can't help it if I'm lucky.
You want one for parts? I tore up the worm gear in mine, and took it apart, never got around to fixng it. Bought the PC in a pinch.
In the case, but apart, no parts missing.
Thanks, but by the time this thing needs parts, Ryobi will have put out the laser sawsall...may the force be with me<G< Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press

Oaky-dohky.
I want one too.

Amazingly, it's usually unplugged when it's ready to be packed up...but thanks for looking out for me. Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press

I never have any problem with my milw supersawall just pulling on the blade to bring the quikchange coupler out and accessible.
You talking of a corded version or is it battery with a different dynamic? One farmer said that it was "good for nothing but to raise cheeping squirrels on." I put no manure whatever on this land, not being the owner, but merely a squatter, and not expecting to cultivate so much again, and I did not quite hoe it all once. I got out several cords of stumps in plowing, which supplied me with fuel for a long time, and left small circles of virgin mould, easily distinguishable through the summer by the greater luxuriance of the beans there.-Thoreau's Walden
Corded...no amount of force, other than plugging it back in, will move the shaft...of course, that could be from all the sheetrock dust the guys have crammed into the housing<G> Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press

Snort,
Same problem as you but with my new 28V vesion :-) I just pull the trigger again. Man I hate cords.

I wouldn't have anything else (the quick change) and i cut as much metal as i do wood... the onle suck AZZ ones (my opinion) are the cordless DW with the black tap on the side that you pull.... the twist ones i have are all good and lock tight...

Get a Milwaukee. No such concerns.

I have the quick change Milwaukee and have already trashed one mechanism. $16 to replace. I've had other brands with the hex key clamp and the saw itself died before the clamp gave way. The Milwaukee just keeps on keepin' on. I'll suffer through parts changes for the convenience.
As most people say, the MIlwaukie corded is pretty much the way to go. I've put mine through about as much abuse as a sawzall can go through for the past few years and it's held up great. No play, handles real well.
Now I've also got the Bosch 18v cordless sawzall and (even though I'm a die hard Boschie) I don't have many good things to say about it. It won't even accept the bigger Milwaukie blades that I use. It looks like the pin's to big to fit the holes on them, and I haven't had the time or patience to see if I can file it down or figure out if it's something else. But that's a different thread.

Bought my last Milwaukee just before they switched to the qwik blade change feature, and felt kind of left out. Thought about taking it to "Tool Time" around the corner to get it changed out, but after reading this thread I'll just hang on to the one I got.
I have a Milwaukee and I find it works great! No slop in it at all.

The quick change on my Makita seems to hold the blade a secure as the blade has been held in any Sawzall.
My tiger sawsall was stolen and i loved the fast change, I have a supersawsall with it and a old hex key one, I never pick up the hex key one, dont miss years of tighting it and the bolt stripping and looking for the allen wrench. something must be broken on yours
Guy I work with has a red saw with black (Porter Cable?) that has a red lever you pull. The lever flops around and last time I had to stick a screwdriver in to get it to release the blade. Hate it. That and the fact that the batteries won't take a full charge. There are still times when it's nice to have, but most of the time I'd rather get out my plug-in Makita with the hex key blade change. The plug-in saw has so much more power in comparison--you forget that it doesn't have to take two minutes to saw your way through a 2 x 4! (Maybe would help if the blades were a little sharper than a butter knife?)
Red and Black like that sounds more like a Black and Dickker.
Another vote for the Milw superSA. No play in the blade and a quality cutting machine.
Beat the snot out of it on a weird cutting job and the quik release deal broke from it banging on the object.
Called Milw to order a new QuikRelease replacement for it and they insisted on sending it free of charge.
Great company even if the Lenox blades are better than theirs.
The enemy will find it out. He may turn pale when the trial comes. This man seemed to me to lean over the cornice, and timidly whisper his half truth to the rude occupants who really knew it better than he. -Thoreau's Walden

I've got the older 10amp Bosch corded model and for the last 4 years, the Bosch 18volt version. Both have quick release - the older corded model's QR is a bit of a pain as it needs to be in the "out" position to be able to reach it.The cordless saw's QR is as simple as pie and has never let me down - it's great to use.Quite the opposite opinon from the previous poster about the Bosch 18 volt saw - I find it to be quite powerful, solid in feel, and not too much vibration in use and not too loud.In contrast - my buddie's 18volt sawzall is loud as heck, feels like it's falling apart with all the vibrations.Nobody here cept maybe someone who has the new 36volt stuff, would ever say their cordless will keep up with a corded model, but it's rare that I reach for my corded model cause the 18volt kicks butt when I need it too.I've never had any problem getting blades in it either - all diff kinds.A note to all about getting blades - for those of you who keep spending $2 a blade and more week in and week out - Ebay is a great source for quantity packs of good blades. One auction, I picked up about 80 6" wood/nail bosch blades for about $.25 a blade and another auction - for about $35 I picked up an asst. of about 57 blades - all diff types and lengths - a lot of 9" and 12" and some specialty type too. It'll be a long time fore I need to piss away $$ at Home Depot buying crappy blades for $2-4 apeice.JT
No issues with my super sawzall if i use Milwaulkee blades. Offbrands are sometimes difficult to remove. haven't tried Lennox.
